BOOKS FOR SUPER-HERO KIDS WHO WANT TO SAVE THE WORLD

I don't know about you but I struggle a bit when it comes to how to talk to my kids about the climate crisis. I mean, it's a HUGE thing isn't it? It terrifies me, so I can only imagine how scary it could be for our children, and it saddens me hugely that this is even something they are having to think about. 
For me, I think it's really important that we give them solutions. Actions. Things that THEY can do, on their own, or with a little help from the grown ups in their lives. Which is why I've been so heartened and delighted (although not at all delighted that these books need to be written in the first place, if you get me) to see so many great books appearing that help not only to explain to our kids in a very accessible and non-terrifying way what's happening, but really importantly, empower them to be part of the solution. Here are a few of my faves:

KIDS FIGHT PLASTIC: HOW TO BE A #2MINUTESUPERHERO

Written by Martin Dorey, founder of the #2minutebeachclean movement, this book gives kids (and their parents!) 50 'missions' to help reduce plastic in their homes, at school and on days out.

WILD TRIBE HEROES 

A series of book for kids written by Ellie Jackson about plastic pollution and deforestation that are the number 1 children's book series around these issues.  These books are great at connecting the facts with the feelings and tapping into our natural concern for the wildlife and animals impacted by our wasteful ways.

WHAT A WASTE: RUBBISH, RECYCLING AND PROTECTING OUR PLANET 

Jess French is a vet and presenter of the CBeebies' Minibeast Adventure.
In this book is "everything you need to know about what we're doing to our environment, good and bad, from pollution and litter to renewable energy and plastic recycling." As well as explaining how things are going wrong, I love that it also shows what we're doing right, and inspires with some awesome tales of positivity.

PLASTIC SUCKS

Written by Dougie Poynter of McFly fame, this book is really good fun! I've got a copy and have just started reading it with our 8 year old and it seems to be holding his attention - it covers some of the history of how we got where we are now, as well as some of the inspiring projects that are hppening around the globe, and of course, what we can be doing at home.
