50 SHADES OF GREEN – Sustainable(ish)

50 SHADES OF GREEN

The older I get the more I resonate with the concept that there is no black and white. As a teenager and a young person, I had a definite tendency towards black and white thinking. Things were either right or wrong. I was either in or out. And maybe that's why I jumped right in at the deep end with a year buying nothing new. I've traditionally been pretty all or nothing, and I do like a challenge, but the more I learn about sustainable living, the more I realise that there is no black and white. Or should that be no green and white. There's no such thing as 'green' or 'not green' - there are a myriad of shades of green in between. And that's ok. In fact, that's great. Because it means that we all have a chance to be somewhere on this glorious spectrum.

You can use no wipes, reusable wipes all the time, reusable wipes when you're at home, or Natracare's new home compostable paper based wipes.

You can be vegan, or vegetarian, or you can commit to eating less meat.

You can choose to never fly ever again, or maybe one flight a year feels like a do-able challenge, or if you have to fly a lot for family or work commitments, then could you make one of those flights a train journey?

You can be car-free, or look into electric cars for your next car, or maybe you can commit to one car-free day a week.

There are shades of green. And we'll probably be different shades of green in different areas of our lives - whether we're rocking it with our diet, but not so great at transport. Or maybe we're prioritising reducing plastic right now, or food waste, or something else.
So instead of it being a simple hierarchy, it's probably more like the second pic (which you might recognise from the Sustainable(ish) logo 😉 ).

A messy splodge of varying shades of green. I think that's probably a pretty fair representation of my life and my green journey.

How about you?
