5 THINGS TO HELP WHEN YOU’RE IN A FUNK (ECO OR OTHERWISE)
It's February. It's peeing down. Again. It's cold and wet and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like the weather is more than a little reflective of my mood at times.
Sometimes it can all feel a bit much can't it? A bit like we're trudging through treacle, or pushing against a locked door. Progress feels slow or none existent, and it all feels like bloody hard work.
Soooooo, this post is really a reminder for me, but if it helps you too, then you're very welcome!
1. Take a walk
Yes, it's a total cliche, but we all know it will help.
Fresh air, movement, and being in green spaces if at all possible are all good for both body and soul. And if you can find a little bit of nature, it can help remind us of what we're fighting to protect.
2. Make a list
NOT of all the many many things you need to do, but of all the many many things you've already done and achieved. A piece in The Guardian recently about eco-anxiety talked about the power of 'recording and celebrating' the changes we've made as an important thing to do and it really really is.
3. Put down your phone
When I'm in a funk I know that one of the things I do is start to scroll. Aimlessly. And then feeling shit about all the amazing things I see other people doing. It's pointless and even though I know it only makes me feel worse, it's a hard habit to break.
Step away from your phone, and see point #1.
4. Talk
Talk to someone in real life. Have a conversation. Doesn't matter what it's about (although if you feel able to share how you're feeling that's even better), but it will help you get out of your own head.
5. Stop
If you can, take a step back. Take a break - from screens, from lists, from the busy relentless spiral of thoughts that are going round and round. Curl up with a cuppa and a book, or whatever it is that helps your brain to stop and switch off.
It's ok to stop and re-group. Because this is what helps stop you from stopping altogether.
What helps you when you're in a funk?
