Message in a Bottle, and a GIVEAWAY!!!
Yes, that’s right folks, it’s My Make Do and Mend Year’s first ever ever ever GIVEAWAY!!!
Can you bear the excitement..?
But this is not any old giveaway.
THIS, is a giveaway with a conscience!
You may remember my recent jaunt up to the Big Smoke to take part in Ecover’s Secret Blogger’s Mission, where they revealed their quite fantabulous Message in Our Bottle initiative.
As you will recall (being avid readers ;)) Ecover are working hard to ‘close the loop’ on plastics recycling and will be starting to incorporate recycled plastic (including plastic harvested from the sea, under the Waste Free Oceans project) into their bottles (which are already made from Plantastic plastic-made from sugar cane, which is 100% renewable).
In the post a week or so ago, I received my very own bottle of Ecover.
How do I know it’s mine? It’s got my name on it of course…
At the Secret Blogger’s Mission, Claire Lewis, of the Less is More Challenge (and LOADS of other awesome, eco-stuff!) came up with the idea of sending messages in Ecover bottles. I thought this was a fab idea, and she and I then liased via e-mail before contacting Ecover. Together (Claire and I and Ecover!) we came up with the idea that Ecover could produce personalised bottles which can be used (obviously) and then ‘filled’ with a message (a Message in a Bottle-get it?!
So my idea for mine would be to post it to my MP asking why the government aren’t planning to introduce a 5p charge on plastic bags in England, to bring us in line with the rest of the UK; or what the government are doing about ensuring the EU bans the use of nicotinoids, which are killing off the bees; or why the government are supporting ‘fracking’ and not renewables…I could go on.
In fact, I may bypass my MP and send it straight to Dave…
OR I might send it a CEO of other plastic bottle guzzlers, and ask them what initiatives they are pushing forwards to ensure that the use of precious oil resources are not squandered on plastic bottles, and to ensure that our oceans and landfill sites will not continue to overflow with plastic that will pretty much NEVER break down…
You get the idea.
Which brings me round to the Giveaway…
Ecover have kindly offered to supply 5 personalised bottles as top banana prizes for my giveaway!
And all you, lovely readers, have to do, is leave a comment telling me who you would send your bottle to, and what the message would say (keep it clean please…).
Lauren from Ecover, and I, will act as judge and jury, and pick what we think are the best 5, as the winners!
And then it would be super cool if you actually did send a message in your bottle too 🙂
Even if you don’t win, it would still be VERY super cool if you could send your message in an unpersonalised Ecover bottle.
I love the mental image I have of a certain Mr Cameron’s office being deluged with Ecover bottles, and passionate, eloquent messages (I am not asking for much..) asking why this government is failing to stand up and be counted time and time again on critical issues affecting the very future of our planet.
Phew, crikey, that all got a bit militant and political and government bashing there didn’t it-sorry!
You are obviously also free to use your bottle to congratulate the government/your MP/CEOs of big business on the good works they are doing…
PS. Have a peek here at Ecover’s latest project involving Glastonbury and the bees…!
