Lampshades… – Sustainable(ish)

Lampshades…

Of the many things we had forgotten about when we cleared out the garage recently, we came across this…

A Wombles lampshade kit I picked up at a flea market ages ago

..and these…

Two rather unattractive lampshades that were part of a job lot of random bits I got from Freecycle a while ago

So we set to work.

Hubby chose the slightly less tedious job of putting together the fantabulous Wombles lampshade, that I would actually really love in our room, but is now hanging looking very retro and very cool in BigSmall’s bedroom.

BigSmall’s previous lampshade has now made it’s way into SmallSmall’s room, to replace the one he has never had and we have been meaning to make for him…

I made a start on the ‘lovely’ beads, and after about 10 minutes, wished I hadn’t.

It was a VERY dull job, snipping through the wire and then taking of each and every one of the beads. Hubby joined in (he isn’t the lovely hubby for nothing..) and started on the second one as I was finishing the first one. And after an evening’s light cussing, we ended up with 2 quite nice lampshades, and 2 pots of beads (which I think I will try and sell at the Upcycle Exchange)

Now all I need to do is to decide what to do with the lampshades.

Should I try out something like this from Pleated Poppy, with ripped bits of fabric

Or something with corks, like this one from Earth 911

Or maybe buttons like this one from At Home on the Bay….

Or maybe I should just turn it upside down and use it as a bowl…
