I left you all on a cliffhanger yesterday, and I hope you all managed to sleep ok what with the suspense…
So here it is, the big reveal-what we bought at the Flea Market….
The first purchase was this great magazine rack for all the piles of crap magazines and bits by hubby’s side of the bed. I think it’s fine as it is, but hubby is keen to give it a little TLC with some hammerite

I was on the hunt for some storage/display options for a new venture (more on this to come..!) and spotted this wicker basket:
It had these 1050’s “Woman” magazines inside:
and I am a sucker for old magazines, so I had a bit of a haggle and got both…
I just love all the old adverts inside-this is one my favourites:
The magazines sit very nicely in the magazine rack…
And then I saw some old potato sacks, and though I would get one to have a go at making a bag or some such out of it (sure I’ve seen something like this on Pinterest…)
And our last purchase, on the way out, was this retro alarm clock for my bedside table:
All in all, I think I was quite restrained…!
This weekend it was Easter-in case you missed it.
And what does everyone do to celebrate the occasion?
Pile off to the nearest Giant Flea Market of course….!
I had my doubts whether or not I could pull it off. Hubby and the Smalls were keen on some kind of Easter Egg Hunt at a National Trust property, and for a while I contemplated a pocket full of mini-eggs with a hole in and casually ‘dropping’ eggs along the path as we walking around, but I decided against this.
I got slightly concerned in the car, when BigSmall asked where we were going, and on being told, replied “oh no, but that’s BORING” Words that strike fear into the heart of every parent.
BUT then I played a blinder (even if I do say so myself) and came up with the genius idea of a Treasure Hunt!
We put our heads together and compiled a list of things we thought we might find at the Flea Market. Amongst other things it contained:
teddy; doll’s pram; doll’s house; stuffed owl; stags head with antlers; pack of playing cards; teeny tiny toy car; big enormous toy car; ride on vehicle; a round picture; a diamond shaped picture (BigSmall’s idea); a child’s desk and chair
And we had a ball!
I LOVE the flea market (needless to say), and I think I may have converted BigSmall. Hubby was slightly bemused by the whole thing I think, and SmallSmall was a little bored, but we actually had a really lovely day.
Here are some of the lovely things we saw:
BigSmall found somewhere for a little rest
And I think this was his favourite find of the day
I could have spent a small fortune. As it was I did make a few little purchases, but you’ll have to wait until next time to find out what….
As the weather is showing no signs of warming up anytime soon, and I have a crochet addiction to feed, I decided to make myself a scarf.
My mum had gifted me some wool, that I had previously gifted to her after an abortive attempt at learning to knit.
And I had a good root around for patterns on Pinterest (where else?!) and found this great free pattern on Fibre Flux
This is my version:
I only had a 5mm hook, I am on the hunt for some bigger ones, so I’m not sure if it has come out the right size or whether it should be a bit bigger.
I had a root around in my Nana’s button collection and found these, which I think look pretty good.
It even matches matches my hat!
AND it cost me precisely nothing! Hooray!
