Dress a Girl Around the World
This Saturday, along with a fellow crafter, Verity, and under my new Make It Better… banner, we are holding a Charity Sewing Day making pillowcase dresses for the Dress A Girl Around the World project!
Becksie from A Year without Supermarkets designed this brilliant logo when she had a sewing day making the dresses, and has very kindly said I could use it too-thankyou Becksie!
I am really quite excited, but also slightly worried that no-one will turn up.
I first found out about this project through a fellow blogger and all round fabulous lady, by the name of Louise, from Sew Scrumptious.
She started off making one dress, and is now the UK co-ordinator for the charity, and has sent over 4000 dresses to girls in need since then!
You may remember, that a while ago I ventured into Deepest darkest Clifton to the gorgeous Cordial and Grace sewing cafe, where the owner, Maria, was hosting a similar event. I met up with the lovely Morwhenna from the Love what You Wear project, and also got to meet Louise.
The simple act of making a dress from a pillowcase (or other fabric) can have profound implications for the girls who receive them:
- It gives them some dignity
- It shows them that they are worthy of love
- And it helps protect them from predators-if they are wearing a good quality dress with the Dress a Girl label on the outside, this indicates that an organization is looking after them and just maybe a predator will pass them over.
Now isn’t that worth a little time and effort?

We will be at Christ Church Hall, on Upper Marsh Road in Warminster, from 11am-4pm on Saturday 11th May, with sewing machines, fabric, all the extra bits and pieces and tea and cake!!
I know that you are all spread far and wide, but please do come and join us if you are anywhere local and can spare an hour or two. And tell all your friends!
Did I say there would be cake…?!
